CNA to LVN (Pharmacology) - 54 CEU hours

In order for a CNA to be eligible to sit for the LVN examination in California, the CNA 

has to meet certain qualifications.  One of the qualifications is that the CNA takes a 

54 hours of pharmacology class.  This pharmacology class which is made up of four 

parts will meet the requirement set forth by the California Board of Vocational 

Nursing and Psychiatric Technician.  This is called the "equivalent education and/or 

experience method".  This is one of the methods used in order to qualify for the "State 

License Exam" (NCLEX-PN).

Knowledge of Commonly Used Drugs and Their Actions will cover the study of drugs: 

their characteristics or properties, uses and effects in the human body.  This is 

divided into two sections.


Section 1: Covers Pharmacology basics; drugs affecting the following Systems: 

Central Nervous System, Autonomic Nervous System,  Cardiovascular and Renal 

Systems, and the Endocrine System.


Section 2:  Covers drugs affecting the Respiratory System, Anti-infective and Anti-

inflammatory drugs, Immune and biological modifiers and Chemotherapeutic drugs, 

drugs affecting the Gastrointestinal System and Nutrition, Hematologic, 

Dermatologic, Ophthalmic, and Otic drugs.
